Laura Baum is a Registered Dietitian in the Raleigh/Durham area. Her areas of specialty include diabetes education and management, weight loss, chronic disease prevention and management, overall general healthy living, and family education. She obtained both a Bachelor and Master’s degree in Science specializing in Foods and Nutrition from the University of Western Ontario, in Canada. Her Master’s degree had a concurrent dietetic internship program, where she became a Registered Dietitian. Her dietetic internship rotations included the neonatal ICU and pediatric departments, diabetes education, bariatric surgery, community nutrition, and a university campus foodservice setting. While working as a diabetes dietitian, Laura became a Certified Diabetes Educator.
From private practice and community health roles, Laura’s dietetic experience ranges from counseling corporate executives, to new immigrants not able to speak English, to clients living on social assistance, to families wanting to tweak their lifestyle. She strives to provide nutrition education in an unbiased and non-judgemental manner. In her past role, she facilitated creative, novel, and enjoyable programs for clients of all ages, education levels, and health needs. These programs have been well received, and have created a support system for clients. Corporate nutrition and wellness presentations energizes Laura, and she looks forward to more of these in the future.
Laura is originally from Toronto, Canada, and moved to Durham, North Carolina. She is familiar with both American and Canadian health systems, regulations, and can convert from imperial to metric at any instant.
